Facebook IPO in the near future?

Rumors are circulating that Facebook are fighting off the billion dollar acquisition offers and that they will present their IPO real soon. In case you don´t know, Facebook.com is social networking website with free access, and users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, region, etc to connect and interact with other people.

It´s 150 million dollar per year ad revenue is a promising start, but is still far away from reaching to the 1 billion dollar revenue of Yahoo! But Facebook has only two years of existence, and it is evolving rapidly; the social network has more than tripled the number of active members to 70 million from about 20 million in April 2008:

Visa outlook and Mastercard outlook analysis

According to an insightfull article written by CNBC, cash-strapped Americans are ringing up more and more purchases on their credit and debit cards, and there could be a steep price to pay ahead.

Though the trend is a boon for the companies that issue the cards, analysts worry that there could be long-term problems not only for consumers but also for the anemic economy and the already-troubled banks that will be underwriting all that risky debt.

“Right now what we’re seeing is the US consumer losing their disposable income as they have to spend more and more on necessities because of higher prices for gas and food,” says Ron Ianieri, a market strategist and co-founder of the Options University investor education center. “Normally when you have a certain budget and you can’t keep up with the budget one of the easy steps is to extend that budget using credit.”

One of the main problems with that is US consumers—and their counterparts in Europe as well—already are delinquent on their credit card payments in numbers not seen in six years. The Federal Reserve last week said credit card delinquencies hit 4.86 percent in the first quarter in 2008, while revolving debt—or the type used in credit purchases—hit $957.2 billion in March, a 7.9 percent increase.

RIMM stock analysis

Research in Motion Ltd. (stock ticker: RIMM) is a designer, manufacturer and marketer of wireless solutions for the worldwide mobile communications market. The BlackBerry wireless platform is its most powerful product.

RIMM announced last week that they plan to introduce a touch-screen version of its BlackBerry device in the third quarter, answering the challenge posed by the runaway popularity of the iPhone, made by Apple Inc. (AAPL).

The device, known as the Thunder, is to be sold exclusively through Verizon Wireless in the U.S. and Vodafone PLC (VOD) abroad, according to people familiar with the matter.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) and Vodafone. The device is designed to run on wireless networks in the U.S. and abroad, those people said.

This growth stock offers no cash dividend and has a high volatility risk, such as Apple and Google. At the moment, RIMM  stock price is $130.71, not too far from its 52 week high:

Stocks to buy in May 2008

Every week we search for the top stocks to buy, and analyse our prior recommendations. We now believe that the slight upward momentum of Wall Street will be lost, and we have a bearish perspective for the future. We will therefore modify our portfolio:

  • Cisco. -2,02% since we bought this stock. Sell this stock due to its difficult momentum. Re-enterying at a lower point might be more appropiate
  • Garmin. +6,36% since recommendation. Hold. Garmin is still recovering from their lows a week ago and might continue its upward trend.
  • SKF. +6,87%. This ETF that replicates twice the inverse of financials, is our strongest recommendation and expect to triple its performance in a few weeks.
  • EWZ. +0,43%. Hold; investing in Brazil helps us to diversify our portfolio and also, the trend is bullish. Read the rest of this entry »

Visa stock analysis and outlook; Mastercard stock analysis

Visa (stock quote: V) posted better than expected results, reporting quarterly income of $314 million, beating analyst expectations. Nevertheless, as the market expected more than Visa could possibly deliver, their price shares falled 6% to 71.00 in the after-hours market.

The potential for slowing growth due to the global slowdown in the economy were enough to drag Visa´s shares down. On Tuesday 29, the premarket was generous to Visa as Mastercard´s great announcement helped investors to recover some confidence in the credit card business, sending Visa shares up to 74.30.

Visa had a slightly lower outlook than expected, as their growth rate will be between 11 and 15%, and not 17% as some analysts predicted.

Best Stocks to Buy on April 2008

At the middle of the first quarter earning season, we have seen that volatility is the only certain aspect of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE); General Electric, Nokia, Pfizer and Bank of America reported below expectations dragging the stock market downside.

On the other hand, Google, AT&T, Mc Donald´s, Johnson & Johnson and Coca Cola reported nicely, giving investors a sense of calm as their is still hope for a close bottom.

In the next few days, we see that there are many attractive stocks to be bought with a potential growth of more than 50%! Lets take a look at them and other not so risky ones.

Visa (stock ticker: V) is our favourite stock, as we have been saying since day 1. They are worldwide diversified so the earning announcement on April 28 should be favourable, rasing Visa´s price to $75 in the short run. We also expect visa to hit $100 at mid 2009.
